GEELONG’s Dylan Hodgson is just three races away from possibly winning the A Grade Open class at the thrilling final round of Victoria’s top motocross competition for seniors – the 2015 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships – which takes place this weekend at Ballarat, Sunday, August 16.
The 21-year-old from Herne Hill currently leads the class over Mt. Evelyn’s Rory McKercher and Heathmont’s James Lambie. “I’m really looking forward to the final round.
“I’m going into Ballarat with the points lead and I’ll just be looking to keep the bike on two wheels and ride smart and hopefully I’ll keep the points lead there too and win a Victorian title,” Dylan said.
With a slender 7-point lead to protect, Dylan will have to be on his game at Monza Park.
“It needs to be a very good day. I can’t afford to have a bad race really and I need to try and get a win as well,” he added.
Dylan also competes in the 2015 Western Regions Motocross Series where he currently sits top of the A Grade Open class. Dylan, competing for nine years now, is still aiming for his first Victorian title.
“I won an A Grade Lites title at the Western Regions in 2013 and finished second last year,” Dylan added.
Dylan picks the third round at Albury-Wodonga last month as his best round for the season.
“I was going into Albury-Wodonga equal for the points lead after the first two rounds. I ended up having a really good day there. I finished fifth in the first race and finished with two firsts and finished first overall,” Dylan said.
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing for Dylan this season. He broke his shoulder halfway through the season and suffered bike issues at the second round.
“I actually rode my mate’s bike at Albury-Wodonga so I’ve been struggling recently but I’m still surprised to be out in front,” he added.
“I’ll be back on my own bike at Ballarat, which will be good,” Dylan added.
Dylan would like to thank Peter Stevens in Geelong for all their support this year, Ringmaster Images, and his mate Ben Brian for letting him borrow his bike at Round 3.
