AUSTRALIA, NEW SOUTH WALES. The highly anticipated FIM Oceania Supermoto Championship in conjunction with Newcastle International Supermoto & World Vets Challenge takes place this weekend September 2 – 3 2017. With plenty of A-List riders, a spectacular backdrop and plenty of interest, the 2017 edition is set to be a cracker.
Event promoter, Graeme Boyd said; “We have secured athletes from a dozen nations including New Zealand, United States of America, Japan, France, Malaysia and Thailand. Combined with the immense home grown talent in Australia and the FIM Oceania Supermoto Championship is shaping up to be the best Australian Supermoto yet.
“We’ll have 20 international and more than 20 Australian Champions – those guys want a technical race. They don’t want to race up 100 metres and then come back. They want corners, late breaking and everything the showground gives us.”
The new-look 940m circuit will start and finish in front of the grandstands, curve along the dirt track towards Newcastle Entertainment Centre, then exit the arena to battle a dozen tarred twists and turns in the car park, before returning past the pits at the northern end for a few ‘bumps and jumps’.
Boyd expects a quality international field this weekend featuring three-time World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss, 2005 World Supermoto Champion Boris Chambon and Japan’s Masatoshi Ohmori. Competitors will test out the Showground track this weekend (September 2-3).
“We have designed a track that will challenge riders and provide an exciting and entertaining experience for spectators. Newcastle Showground will be used to its full potential. Spectators will be able to walk around the entire course and the big screen TV will ensure they never miss any of the action,” Boyd finished.
