BENALLA’s Dylan Long won the Pro Open title by 15 points at the final round of the 2015 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships at Ballarat’s Monza Park on Sunday, August 16.
The 20-year-old won the title with a race to spare, impressively winning eight out of a possible 11 races for the season. “I had to borrow a mate’s bike just to be able to race this weekend due to the last two rounds of the MX Nationals being in Queensland.
“Ryan Float was awesome enough to let me use his bike and I won the first two races by a fair distance,” Dylan said.
“I had enough points to win the title so I didn’t have to race the last race,” Dylan added. He was also rapt with how his starts went on Sunday, which included achieving two holeshots (being the first rider into the first corner at the start of the race).
“I never really get holeshots and I got two in-a-row so that was pretty awesome,” he said.
Dylan also heaped praised on the Ballarat Rovers Motorcycle Club for preparing a great motocross track at Monza Park. “It actually turned out not too bad.
“There were a few lines to choose from and it was good getting used to the up-and-down hills especially coming into Toowoomba for the MX Nationals next weekend where it’s a fairly hilly track,” he added.
Dylan currently sits in seventh overall in the 450cc Pro championship at the 2015 MX Nationals with the remaining two rounds to take place in Queensland; Toowoomba on Sunday, August 23 (Round 9) and Coolum on Sunday, August 30 (Round 10).
“I’m aiming to finish off the MX Nationals strongly and compete in the Australian Supercross Championships in October. Supercross suits my style of riding a bit more,” Dylan added.
Dylan would also like to try his luck at competing in the United States one day. “I definitely want to travel to America and race. At the moment I’ll just save my pennies until it’s time to go. It’ll be great to be able to compete against the best of the best over there,” he said.
Dylan would like to thank Ryan Float for letting him use his bike on the weekend, his Mum and Dad and girlfriend Tori for driving him to all his rounds this season, and all his sponsors and personal sponsors including Brett Trigg Visual, Nobby Underwear, UNIT, and NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki and Tattoo Racing.
On the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships, Dylan added: “I’m pretty happy winning my first Pro Open title. I’m hoping for many more. I’ll definitely be back next year to try again.”
