AUSTRALIA. Motorcycling Australia has released an information bulletin on LitPro, they can be mounted on a helmet. Now, it was KJ’s understanding that a GoPro could not be mounted because the main reason was it affected the structural integrity of the helmet, sounds legit right? One can argue that a LitPro also affects the structural integrity of a helmet. So to state size and weight of an item does not apply, well, then why do all GoPro camera mounts have to be removed from a helmet to pass scrutineering?… KAJX believes that mounting an item, via a sticker is a personal choice for the athlete, as technically placing a sticker of a sponsor on the helmet can be considered affecting the chemical structural integrity, and at the end of the day it is sad that Australian based athletes riding on a Motorcycling Australia endorsed track cannot share the fun they experience. Sounds like a bit of double standards, kudos MA.

LitPro Helmet Attachment


There has been much speculation and confusion around the use of the LitPro data logging devices in competition, due mainly to the banning of helmet cameras.

There are some important differences between these devices and the way they are mounted on helmets;

  • Cameras are significantly larger, heavier than a LitPro and are designed to be solidly mounted to stay in place. Helmet cameras are not only more intrusive since they require greater force to break away when impacted. This, in turn, may impact the extent of any injury that may be sustained by the rider and the integrity of the helmet.
  • LitPro devices are considerably smaller, lighter, protrude far less from the helmet and are attached to the helmet with Velcro. In the event of an incident, a LitPro device is designed to detach from the Velcro under impact and not cause any extra damage, not unlike a peak or stabiliser attached to a helmet.

Currently, there are no regulations governing the LitPro attachment, so at this point, the rule applying to cameras would not apply to a LitPro device.
