Antonio Cairoli crashes out of Latvia

At the start of the year, I thought 2019 could be the year for number 10 World Championships for Tony Cairoli. The season started Cairoli was looking good, then… Everything started to go wrong for the Italian.

Enter Round 9 of the World Motocross Championship, the MXGP of Latvia (Kegums), fighting illness Antonio Cairoli lined up for the event. After Qualifying 12th coming Race 1, Cairoli was not happy on the start gate, shaking his head while on camera focusing for the gate drop. That was short-lived, with a great start he led the opening laps before Arnaud Tonus gained the lead. Herlings would win the race after crashing in the warm-up lap breaking his ankle. Arnaud Tonus finished second and Tony Cairoli third.

Race two, a good jump out of the gate for Cairoli but was pushed wide, while in the fourth position chasing down Arnaud Tonus everything went wrong for the Sicilian being flung off his KTM over an obstacle. He would not remount his machine.

“‌Today, unfortunately, didn’t go as I wanted, race 1 concluded at 3rd place considering physical conditions it’s an excellent result.
In race 2, unfortunately, it went worse with the right shoulder dislocation on the first lap.
In the week more checks to see what recovery times we have.
Thank you all for the messages that have arrived 🧡‌” stated Antonio Cairoli on social media.

Tony Cairoli still sits in second place in the World Championship (358 points). Tim Gajser leads the Championship on 391 points, and Jeremy Seewer sits in third place with 256 points.
