Motocross/Supercross Aussie export Chad Reed has been vocal about not being selected for the Aussie Des Nations team; one could assume he came out on the weekend at Indiana to prove a point to Motorcycling Australia that he should have. Well, if Chad was going to show that he deserved a spot on the Aussie Team, he should have competed at Red Bud, so the results on the weekend don’t prove anything to team selectors. Yeah, it is an impressive result, Chad is getting a bit ‘long in the tooth’ and to come out and get a 5th and an 8th in AMA Motocross after a few years is pretty cool, and proves that the JGR Suzuki is hot to trot.

KJ thinks if Indiana weren’t wet, Chad would not have done so well. The wet is a game changer, the mud makes an athlete use raw skill to be successful not speed, and no one can argue that Chad doesn’t have the motocross expertise. Speed doesn’t come from the machine only; it also comes from the mind. For an athlete to be able to hold their focus for a race length is challenging at best, and if someone hasn’t raced in so long, focus for a race duration is questionable. There is a big difference between practising and racing, a trend Aussie MX Athletes are having issues with at the moment, especially in Victoria where the Senior State Motocross Numbers has declined, and training facilities such as RidePark and Park4MX are exploited by the ex-motocross racer (pay, ride, leave), while motocross clubs struggle for volunteers to run events.
