Evans to be docked second place

Watching the MX Nationals Round 9 podium interviews on Sunday 5th August 2018, viewers could see that Mitch Evans was hungry for a win, well, that hunger has a bit of hot sauce with Evans evidently being docked two positions for passing under a yellow flag according to MotoOnline (there is nothing listed on the MX Nationals or other websites as yet).

The 2018 Manual of Motorsport states: “ Yellow flags will be waved in Motocross and Supercross events to indicate immediate danger.
When yellow flags are waved competitors must not:
a) Jump,
b) Overtake other competitors, from the point displaying the yellow flag
The penalties for breaching this GCR are:
a) First offence, relegation of three places and up to a $500 fine,
b) Subsequent offences in the same year, exclusion and $500 fine.”

The incident evidently occurred during the second thirty minute plus one lap moto, where Mitch Evans finished in second behind 2018 Australian Motocross Champion Dean Ferris. At a guess, Mitch will be demoted from second to fifth which will make the results of moto 2; 1. Dean Ferris, 2. Caleb Ward, 3. Brett Metcalfe, 4. Dylan Long, 5. Mitch Evans.

Evans will be demoted from second place to fourth overall for Round 9. Brett Metcalfe will move to second overall, and Caleb Ward will be elevated to third overall. The question will be for the final round, can Mitch Evans get that elusive moto win he has been training for?

Round 10 is scheduled for Coolum in a two-day motocross extravaganza 11/12 August 2018 running MX1, MX2, MXD, 250 Rookies, Women’s, Amateur Cup, and the 125 Gold Cup.
