AUSTRALIA, VICTORIA, NEWRY. Empire Motorsports had its debut at round one of the Pirelli MX Nationals last weekend in Newry. After qualifying 7th tough conditions seen the team come away with a 15th in MXD and 18th in MX2. The Empire Motorsports team consists of two riders,2017 MXD champion Cody Dyce and Deakin Hellier.

Cody this year stepping up to the MX2 class will see him competing with a completely new depth of talent. Cody is using this year as a learning and development year in his racing career.

16-year-old Deakin Hellier will be racing his first year in the MXD class, as well as training for the Nationals he will be attending high school.

2017 MXD Champion battled with UN foreseen issues at his local track of Newry

“I felt confident after qualifying 7th, Moto 1 I had to pull in due to a rock stuck in my back break, Moto 2 I was sitting about 10th when I got pushed high and crashed, the track conditions made it extremely hard to make up ground and I ended up with an 18th, I feel like I can go into round two at Appin smarter, having learnt a lot at round one” said Dyce

Young Gun Deakin Hellier felt excited to be racing for the first time in the MXD class and felt like he learnt a lot from the first round and is ambitious for the rest of the series.

“Coming into round one I was a little bit nervous, not knowing where I would be in comparison to the rest of the field, with an 11th in moto 1 I’m going in to round two with a clear positive mind,” said Hellier.
